Calendar Girls
Everyone knows the story of how a group of extraordinary women, members of a very ordinary Yorkshire Women’s Institute (WI) group, persuaded one another to pose for a charity calendar with a difference.
The Calendar Girls, as they came to be known, dedicated the calendar to John Baker who had died the previous year in 1998. They had no idea of the media sensation they would create.
More than ten years after the first iconic 'nude' calendar, our Calendar Girls are as active as ever. You can meet them at events across the country or buy their merchandise from our online shop. Their range, which bears their sunflower symbol, John's favourite flower and a tribute to his memory. includes jams and chocolates, and the latest 2011 calendar.
Many other fundraising groups have since replicated the calendar idea across the globe with many themes. But none have touched hearts and minds in the quite same way as the Calendar Girls.
